VerdAfrique is working in partnership with the Government of the Ituri province to support the rebuilding of The Budana Hydroelectric Power Station (12.5MW).
The Budana Hydroelectric Power Station supplies a large part of the population of this province in the northeast of the Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC), the station has been running at 24% of its capacity since 2018, leading to load shedding and a lack of local electricity.
We have been working to get The Budana Hydroelectric Power Station back to full capacity. Bringing significant domestic value to the Ituri Province and DRC:
Congo Hydro
-
The Ituri Province currently lacks access to reliable and affordable electricity, limiting economic development, healthcare, and education. Hydropower provides a sustainable source of energy for local communities and supports their economic growth.
-
Building and operating hydropower plants can create job opportunities for local communities, helping reduce poverty and improving living standards in the region.
-
Green energy production will significantly reduce the DRC's carbon footprint and contribute to global efforts to combat climate change. It also helps protecting the areas rich biodiversity.
-
Green and local energy provides a reliable source of electricity, especially in remote areas where grid electricity is not available. This can improves energy security and reduces the risk of power outages.
Our Role
The Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC) has tremendous potential for renewable energy production, particularly in hydroelectric power. VerdAfrique is ensuring the quality of this project in the DRC is of the highest standard possible. Sourcing quality materials and machinery from the best manufacturers in the world. As well as hiring global experts to lead and train the local team.
